A Prayerful Reflection of 1 Peter 4:12-16 - #10

O Lord, help me to embrace that which suffering teaches.

Why do I treat fiery ordeals that have come from Your sovereign hand as something strange? Forgive me.

When I bring suffering upon myself, I repent. Teach me to be humble.

When I share in the sufferings of my Lord Jesus Christ may I keep on rejoicing. May I even be… overjoyed! I do not feel equipped, but… You portion out and provide the armor, the fortitude and even the longing.

May I glorify Your name in my sufferings.

Please teach me to suffer well.

Help me to turn my eyes upward and not inward when I am in pain.

May Your Spirit rest upon me.

Amen

1 Peter 4:12-16

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though something strange were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that at the revelation of His glory you may also rejoice and be overjoyed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory, and of God, rests upon you. Make sure that none of you suffers as a murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or a troublesome meddler; but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name.
